My Messy Home
Let's admit it, life is messy. I know I said that like a lighthearted joke, but really. It is. Much messier than chocolates on a summer day. A better picture might be if Dimple was slathered in chocolate because I think that is just about the picture of how messy I am.
And I really want people to think I'm the best multitasker. I can manage my household like a paid, professional mom.
It would be nice too, if you believed that every breakfast I made was as light and fluffy as these delicious pancakes (egg, dairy and gluten free nonetheless!).
But the reality is at the end of most days, this is me. Wiped, tired, overwhelmed and imperfect. Just put a hat over my eyes and let me sleep, already!
I read something that rang true to my heart today. An editorial by Todd Wilson about keeping up pretenses in fear of others judgements or comments on my life. The fear of rejection from a number of potential sources.
"Believe it or not, God loves you whether your kids are a grade level ahead or two levels behind. He understands when you yell and scream because he knows your weaknesses...in fact, he created you with those weaknesses. He understands when your house is a disaster, that you gave your family cereal for dinner, or that your kid wore the same pair of underwear three days in a row. So if God still loves you when you blow it, why would you care what others think?" T. Wilson
"Confess your faults to one another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16
"So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
I want my children to remember their time in our home like the smiles on these faces. But I know they will also remember messy things. Perhaps mommy falling apart, crying in frustration - whatever.
But I know there was a lot of this.
Mornings with weird hair, bad pictures from an iPhone, unwaxed eye brows and a tipped lamp shade. Life.
And that is okay. I need to say that more. Repeat it over and over. Life is messy, earth is not our home, we look forward to something far beyond our imaginations. "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither hath entered into the heart of man the things which God hath prepared for those who love him." 1 Corinthians 2:9
