She Saved My Life

I was thinking today about one of my sisters.  I haven't really introduced my extended family on this blog, but I was thinking of her in a very blog worthy manner so I am compelled to make an introduction.  Since I don't have a "pen" name for her yet, I think I'll just refer to her as Doctor Pippi.

Why this name?  Well, she used to have auburn braids that would tweak out a bit from her head as a girl - akin to the endearing character of Pippi Longstocking.  The doctor part comes from the idea that she knows a lot of things, she has a doctorate of pharmacy and that if a health problem arises in my life - I typically consult her bank of knowledge.  She's like our family doctor (in fact I think she is the only one in our family with an actual doctorate).  I don't think her braids stick out from her head anymore, she has all of her adult teeth now and she is quite a lovely lady.  In fact, I am not sure the last time she actually wore braids.

That was either a long side story or simply too much explanation of a simple blog name. I am not even sure if she remembers this, but here goes.

Growing up, my family lived close to the school so we were "walkers".  We crossed one street to get to school that was a little busy.  I am guessing the speed limit on the street was probably around 35 mph.

A fine, sunny day we were walking home from school.  We approached the street and were waiting to cross when I must have thought the road was clear because I stepped right out into the road.  Doctor Pippi grabbed my coat and pulled me back onto the gravel shoulder as some large metal beast came squealing to a stop in front of us.  She grabbed me so hard I fell backwards onto the shoulder.  She saved my life.

I guess I owe you one, Doctor Pippi, and perhaps a better blog name.  I'll work on that.  Thanks for saving my life!
