Sunshine and Melting

This time of year has gone from being the ugliest in my book to the most hopeful.  I have learned to see it for the relief from winter that it is - the slow breakup of snow piles, ice and the birds resuming songs after sitting their winter days in frigid temperatures.  Spring is ugly, it is muddy, the trees remain bare, the snow goes from white fluff to icy dirt.  But spring is also the muck before the green buds, the return of the seasonal birds and the soil springing to life once again.  So I take it for the blessing it is.  A day for my kids to spend a little longer outside without freezing.

Last week before the melting Lolo came to visit and the two of these had a jolly time freezing outside in the huge dump of snow we had that day.  They were very frosty when they finally came inside.

Today, Chirpee and Dimple took out some of their outside toys and drove them around.

The formerly "grand tetons" are quite small now you can see.

And our woodpile has been severely exhausted this winter.  One of the coldest winters on record.  And that says a lot for southern Manitoba.
