For the past many days, I've been relishing with joy watching my son with his papa. Since the weather is nicer, Deereandy has been out working on many yard projects and Chirpee has been his little sidekick through it all (at least until bedtime).
Deereandy shovels some gravel, Chirpee shovels, Deereandy checks the balance with a level and then turns his back and Chirpee has confiscated the level and places it here and there - always diligent to check the bubbles before placing it elsewhere. He runs off with daddy's mallet and then Deereandy asks for it back, he faithfully produces it.
Chirpee is happy to have two "trak-tor"s around the yard as well. He climbs up and steers while making motor noises then climbs down and up a few hundred more times. All the while chattering to himself in his special language - making me wish I had a glimpse into what he was talking about. I'm a little jealous that the Lord knows what he's thinking and is probably smiling proudly to Himself over his little creation's imaginings.
The outdoors has brought out a new facet of Chirpee's personality to me. He is never more joyful and free than with the breeze blowing his hair around and dirt in his fist. When driving to grandma's house or to aunt and uncle's he looks at the surrounding empty fields and points out every tractor and repeatedly comments "dir", "dir" (dirt). I think his use of the word "dir" has surpassed his use of "trak'-tor" this spring.
There have been a few nights when I've heard him cry out in his sleep "trak'-tor" and an excited "dir", "dir"! I just love it!
None of these things are new to mankind and many have heard similar stories to this before, but none are so precious to me as the ramblings and learning of my son. He is a precious gift to us.
