Belated Thoughts On Mexican Easter Celebrations

Why would I have thoughts on a Mexican Easter Celebration in the first place?  I really don't know much about Mexico's cultural traditions surrounding the resurrection celebration, but I do know one little tidbit.  That little tidbit had me a little appalled.

The PTA at my mother's school made some gifts for the teachers this year at Easter time.  My mom sent them along in a package of other things for my boys.

Are these adorable or what?

So these are egg shells that have been hand painted and filled with paper confetti (after the egg was taken out and inside dried).  A little tissue paper is glued over the end that was filled with confetti.
Apparently, these fragile creations that take a good amount of time to make, are hid on Easter morning for children to find.  When they find them...
They step on them and smash them.
