Well...I think I have to cut my dairy out, too. Dimple seems to be having a bit of trouble with it (I think). No, I'm not taking him to the doctor, I'm just going to experiment by cutting dairy out and see if he improves (lots of congestion, mucus spit up and green, mucus stool TMI!). I keep threatening to bring the bread back into my diet b/c I don't really know how one can live without wheat and dairy. I mean, REALLY! If gluten didn't make me feel as bad as it does it would have been back...weeks ago.
So I cheated and had a little cream in my coffee this morning and remarked over a dinner of ground beef on a plain baked potato with a side of lettuce and peaches (boring, except for peaches), "I'd better lose a good twenty pounds by the end of the year if I have to keep this up - there should be some benefit!" I am now hungry again since I can't eat my cheese or yog to fill me up.
Well, I am taking it one hour at a time and when I choose to look into the future I start chewing on my nails with fervor!
This just gives me more sympathy for my sister who can't do wheat or dairy. At least I'll get to wean Dimple at some point and enjoy dairy again. I also don't get migraines from caffeine like her either - really I've got it good!

You inspire me, Jaime. I should probably cut out sugar and wheat like you have to see what would happen. But I am sooo addicted to both and have nothing in the will power department. Nada. I'm thinking . . . baby steps.
When I was nursing J, I quit dairy to see if her gassy tummy would improve, which it did. I poured O.J. on my breakfast cereal instead of milk. Amazing what you can get used to.

Oooh, what AND dairy, that's tough! Can you handle spice? When I was doing the dairy/wheat free diet, used a lot of spices, salt, and veggies to try and add more flavor. Salsa, sauteed garlic or onions, saurkraut, soy sauce, ginger, etc. I remember never feeling satisfied, but maybe b/c I didn't eat enough. Rice, rice noodles, amaranth, corn, potatoes, and beans can take precedence and be satisfying. Hope you can find a source for raw milk soon! That might be an answer to prayer for you, if it's only a lactose problem and not a true allergy.
Another thing: you could get examples and recipes from Asian cultures who consume little if any wheat or dairy products. Try eating more Chinese, Korean, Thai, Japanese style foods, if you have access to those kinds of ingredients, that is. They often eat very simply, with seasoned meat and rice. I can email you some links if you want. Sorry for all the comments. :)
